Welcome
Sustainable Relief was established by a group of concerned University of Texas at Austin alumni. Moved by the many recent natural catastrophes around the world, including the Asian Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, Guatemalan landslides, and the South Asian Earthquake we began to evaluate how to best help our neighbors.
Our organization’s mission is to raise funds for disasters around the world, and have our volunteers help directly in the effected area. By having ‘boots on the ground’, we believe that we can be directly responsible to those we are trying to help while we maintain financial transparency/accountability to our donors.
(Please see our Projects page for work currently being done http://sustainablerelief.org/diary/.)
Members of Sustainable Relief have committed to only serve in remote areas of any given disaster. Normally these are the places which are often over-looked by the media and NGO’s, leaving local people stranded and fending for themselves, just when they need the assistance the most. We’ve seen this over and over again -outside of New Orleans with the Hurricane Katrina victims and with the Asian Tsunami victims in Northern Sri Lanka.
Another goal of ours is to pair remote schools, villages, and businesses in the effected areas, with similar local establishments in the donor countries. By doing so, no one donor is overwhelmed and no recipient is overlooked. We will also continue to raise funds and supplies from individuals and organizations that wish to simply contribute financially. And of course we will continue to maintain our volunteers on the ground to assist with the rebuilding efforts.
This is no small task, and therefore, we humbly ask for your support. As a financial donor or a physical volunteer, you can make a lasting impact on those less fortunate.
Our organization does not subtract administrative fees, or pay personnel, therefore, all of your financial donations (100%) will go towards relief efforts. Moreover, Sustainable Relief is a Texas based non-profit organization under IRS 501 c3 status, and all financial donations are tax deductible.
